Granado Street

The Greater Tularosa Foundation has assisted the Village of Tularosa with efforts to revitalize the public streetscape and sidewalks of Tularosa’s historic commercial street. For the past several years, GTF has worked alongside village officials to write grant applications for Granado Street improvements and has helped coordinate stakeholder meetings and presentations. The bulk of the foundation's current Granado Street efforts are focused on three blocks of Granado from St. Francis Drive (US Highways 54/70) to 1st Street. This area is generally known as Tularosa's historic downtown.

Frontier Communities Program

As of October of 2014, the Village of Tularosa was accepted into the Frontier Communities Initiative Program, which is a division of the NM MainStreet Program (NMMS) and is financed by the NM Department of Economic Development. NMMS/Frontier design professionals from Santa Fe helped the village and the Greater Tularosa Foundation refine and add to the Granado Street vision.  In September of 2015, the Village of Tularosa was accepted again into the competitive Frontier Communities Initiative Program to receive technical assistance with marketing and branding of Tularosa's historic downtown.

Design

The visuals featured on this page serve to show the proposed pedestrian improvements along Granado Street and across US Highways 54/70. The corner curb extensions, crosswalks, improved sidewalks, and added lighting address pedestrian safety needs. The proposed designs also create an inviting and aesthetically pleasing entry to Granado Street with visible "gateway" signage and a visitor center on the NE corner. Please see our Community Vision visitor center webpage for the most up-to-date visuals of the proposed center (shown in white to the left).

Design Credits

The visualizations of proposed Granado Street changes on this page were created by urban designer Hadley Yates. These images were commissioned by the Community by Design firm, which does work for the Frontier Communities Initiative Program/NM MainStreet. The white visitor center in the visuals was designed by the Frontier program architect William Powell.
